As I have said before, we are not getting straight poop on the economy from the experts. Take a drive around your town and have a look for yourself. See how many For Sale signs have sprung up. That will tell you more than the experts will.

I worked for the company for 13 years.
Mortgage data didn't become "public" until an act of congress in 1988. It took a couple of years for the data to be available in a meaningful mass. Also, storage and search-ability were not terribly advanced, so productizing was an issue.
DataQuick bought a Tandem mainframe and began transitioning from a microfiche based business to a computer based business.
there are other sources, too. They follow that approximate timeline, too.
